For many years the Lord has been teaching me about the “overcomers” in Revelation chapters 2 and 3. I came to understand the overcomers and the bride of Christ are one and the same. The overcomers are the ones who will rule and reign with Christ in His coming kingdom. Even though the Lord invites all His people to overcome, not all will do so, which means not all will be His bride. What I’m speaking of has nothing to do with salvation and this is not a salvation issue, this is really about sanctification.
My personal experience, and the Bible, has taught me that sanctification is the key component to being an overcomer. And the Lord uses everything in our lives to bring about a higher degree of sanctification– that is if we realize this and cooperate with the Holy Spirit in it. So that means the Lord uses “pruning” to help us achieve the destiny He has for us as overcomers. The Lord speaks in depth about pruning in John chapter 15.
To be an overcomer means we actually overcome something, or many things, in my case. We can overcome our pride, our self-centered life, our fears and anger, our wrong concepts of God and His purposes, and anything that is a stumbling block to being the overcomers He desires us to become. So the next time someone is rubbing you the wrong way and you lash out with words that should never have been spoken, think about how God may be using that to uncover something in your heart that He would like to deal with by pruning. When this happens to me I go to Jesus immediately and ask Him to forgive me for my wrong attitude and change me into His image. Brothers and sisters, this is the cross, this is what it means to crucify your flesh and die daily. The Lord gave me a vision of a nail going through my tongue. He was telling me to crucify my words and be very careful of what comes out of my mouth. This is such an important aspect to sanctification, I cannot stress it enough.
My Favorite Scriptures in the Bible are the ones about the overcomers, I have these 3 framed on my wall:
Revelation 1:5b- 6 To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, 6 and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Revelation 3:11 “Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown. (Remember, kings wear crowns and the Lord has a crown for the overcomers.)
Revelation 3:21 “To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. (That is an awesome reason to seek the Lord about overcoming!)
Dear Heavenly Father,
In the name of Jesus Christ I lift up my brethren to you and ask that you would undertake for each of us to do for us what we cannot do for ourselves. Lord you said we can nothing without You. May you show yourself strong in our lives and compel us to seek you in a deeper way so we may be conformed to the image of Christ and become the overcomers you are calling us to be. Help us to crucify our “self-life” and let Christ Jesus live through us. Lord this is not something we can do in our flesh, so Holy Spirit have your way, and God grant us the grace.
Father, if we can’t function and be effective as disciples and a body of believers in this life, then how will we qualify to rule and reign with Christ in His Kingdom? Lord give us a servant’s heart and the endurance we need to finish our race strong! When we are weary, carry us, and when we are discouraged, help us to rejoice always no matter the circumstances.
Help us to be doers of your Word and to perfect the Word of God in our lives. Lord you are our life, bring us into alignment with your thoughts and ways and perfect will. Help us to be the bride who has made herself ready, and a people who realize we are in training to rule and reign with you. Help us to see what you are doing through everyone and everything we encounter on a daily basis that challenges us and pushes our buttons. Thank You Lord for all You have done to help us mature as a people of your heart. In Jesus name I pray, Amen
May Jesus bless you all as you submit to His sanctifying pruning process in 2019!
Much Love, Sarah Beveridge
